Shri A. Revanth Reddy
Chief Minister of Telangana
Under Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy’s Congress government, the idea of women empowerment in Telangana has seen a major transformation - from being just rhetoric to becoming a reality.
As recently as International Women’s Day this year (March 8, 2025), Shri A. Revanth Reddy has launched a new initiative to strengthen the women SHGs with the motto of making ‘one crore crorepatis’.
Stree Nidhi delivers critical financial support to 4.35 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Telangana, serving as a lifeline for women seeking economic independence. The initiative’s key features include:
Funds disbursed within 48 hours for medical emergencies, education, or family needs.
Mobile app-based loans with minimal documentation.
Shields women from predatory moneylenders and loan sharks.
Supports agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming, and various other livelihoods.
In Telangana, over 65 lakh women are united under a powerful microfinancing network – Self-Help Groups (SHGs) – with a shared goal of achieving economic freedom and social empowerment. They have revolutionised financial inclusion for Telangana women.
65 lakh members organised across 4.35 lakh SHGs, 18,397 village organisations, 554 mandal samakhyas, and 30 zilla samakhyas.
Regular savings, credit access, collective decision-making, and social awareness.
Women gaining economic independence, confidence, and improved social standing.
Launched immediately after Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy assumed office, in December 2023, this flagship programme delivers immediate benefits to women from BPL families:
Gas cylinders at just Rs. 500 for each household that possesses a white ration card.
Free TSRTC bus travel for women, girls, and transgender individuals statewide — accessible through Aadhaar verification.
Zero bill for usage of electricity up to 200 units per household for BPL families in Telangana.
This groundbreaking policy leverages the established SHG network to create wealth and sustainable livelihoods.
Rs. 1 lakh crore bank loan linkage to SHGs; Rs. 25,000 crore earmarked for small businesses.
Rs. 2 lakh loan insurance and Rs. 10 lakh group accidental insurance.
Mini industrial parks in every Assembly constituency.
Dedicated branding, packaging, and marketing support for SHG products.
The Congress government’s integrated approach has transformed women’s lives, making the concept of empowerment a tangible reality, thereby creating pathways for economic freedom, dignity, and leadership for every woman in Telangana.
