Multi-pillar support to farmers

Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Telangana has ushered in a transformative era for farmers, marked by unwavering timely support, record paddy production, huge spend on agrarian activities, and people-first governance.

A new era of
agricultural welfare

From financial relief to assured procurement, every initiative is geared towards strengthening the hands that feed the nation.

Since December 2023, the Telangana Congress government has proved, time and again, that nothing can come in the way of their commitment to the farming community by spending an astronomical amount of over Rs 1 lakh crore on farmer welfare, hitherto unknown in India.

When data does the talking

No other State government has ever spent such a large sum in such a short span to help the farmers (directly) and their families (indirectly).

  • Runa Mafi – Rs. 20,616 crore
  • Rythu Bharosa (Yasangi) – Rs. 12,682 crore
  • Rythu Bharosa (Vanakalam) – Rs. 8,744.13 crore
  • Free electricity – Rs. 16,691 crore
  • Paddy Purchase – Rs. 42,477 crore
  • Crop Bonus for fine rice – Rs. 1,358 crore
  • Rythu Bima – Rs. 1,455 crore
  • Crop insurance – Rs. 1,300 crore

Empowering farmers,
building Telangana

In a swift and empathetic response to crop losses from unseasonal rains and floods, the A. Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government disbursed Rs. 10,000 per acre as compensation, totalling Rs. 260 crore.

Breaking past inertia, the government also revived 16 long-stalled central schemes by releasing Rs. 245 crore in matching grants. Since December 2023, over 40,000 farmers have received farm machinery worth Rs. 282 crore, giving an impetus to agriculture.

Let’s take a look at the various farmers’ welfare schemes that the government spends huge amounts on.

Rythu Runa Mafi

The State Government revived the long-awaited Rythu Runa Mafi (farm loan waiver) scheme, delivering justice to lakhs of indebted farmers. With Rs. 21,000 crore bringing financial relief to more than 25 lakh farmers, the scheme ensures that loans up to Rs. 2 lakh are fully waived for eligible farmers, offering them the much-needed peace of mind.

Rythu Bharosa

Telangana’s flagship farmer support scheme, Rythu Bharosa, directly transfers Rs. 12,000 per acre per year to farmers, supporting both Kharif and Rabi seasons. With over Rs. 9,000 crore disbursed in 2025 alone, the initiative ensures timely input assistance, enhances productivity, and reduces dependency on private moneylenders.

Rythu Bima

Telangana continues its pioneering commitment to farmer security through Rythu Bima — a unique life insurance scheme providing Rs. 5 lakh to the families of deceased farmers. With Rs. 1,455.17 crore worth premiums paid by the State government to the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), this initiative has provided protection and insurance cover to over 47.7 lakh farmers, and their bereaved families.

Crop Insurance

To shield farmers from climate uncertainty, Telangana has reactivated the crop insurance mechanism under the Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), ensuring coverage for major crops in vulnerable districts. Premium subsidies and claim settlements are being streamlined for better farmer outcomes. As part of this, Rs. 10,000 per acre has been paid as compensation for crop losses, totalling Rs. 260 crore government spend.

One insurance coverage, multiple benefits

  • Extended to all crops cultivated across Telangana.
  • Guarantees compensation in case of crop loss.
  • Supports farmers during yield shortfalls due to any reason — be it fake seeds, pest attacks, or erratic weather.
  • Brings certain crops under a weather-based insurance system, providing additional protection against climate uncertainties.

Crop Bonus

Recognising the value of quality produce, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is offering a Rs. 500 per quintal crop bonus for fine variety paddy over and above the Minimum Support Price (MSP), thereby incentivising better yield and improving farmer incomes. A multi-pronged strategy including a record-breaking paddy procurement drive in Rabi 2024-25, and the Rs. 1,358 crore spent on crop bonus resulted in a phenomenal 61% jump in fine paddy cultivation.

Free Electricity & Subsidies

Led by A. Revanth Reddy, the government has spent Rs. 16,691 crore to ensure more than 29 lakh pump sets and agricultural connections in the State continue to receive free 24x7 power. This lifeline for irrigation benefitted 40,265 farmers who received Rs 282 crore worth equipment. Additionally, input subsidies on seeds, fertilizer, and mechanisation are empowering farmers with reduced input costs and increased efficiency.
