Davos wrap-up: Telangana closes strong with Rs. 29,000 crore buzz and a July date for Hyderabad

25-01-2026

Big MoUs, bigger momentum: Data centres, clean power, and new partnerships

By the concluding day at Davos, the Telangana story had become clear. The State had made real progress to show. At the end of a busy meeting-MoUs-interest-intent-filled week, Telangana proved that beyond the conversations, there was something much more tangible – outcomes!

Reports around the closing leg of #WEF2026 said Telangana’s outreach resulted in investment commitments and expressions of interest worth around Rs. 29,000 crore, spread across AI, data centres, clean energy, manufacturing and GCCs. The key items highlighted in this overall figure included:

  • UPC Volt (Rs. 5,000 crore AI-ready data centre project)
  • Schneider Electric India (Rs. 623 crore expansion)
  • Rashmi Group (Rs. 12,500 crore steel plant proposal)
  • SARGAD (aviation MRO plan)

But the wrap-up was not only about numbers. It was also about how Telangana wants to work with global investors. Faster, more regularly, and with sharper follow-through.

The ‘July WEF in Hyderabad’ proposal

At the “Join the Rise” event in Davos, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy proposed an idea that got instant attention – hosting a WEF follow-up forum in Hyderabad every July or August.

His reasoning was straightforward. “One year is too long for follow-ups in today’s business environment. If decisions move fast, governments also need quicker review points,” said the Chief Minister.

The proposal received unanimous support from global business leaders and policymakers. Revanth Reddy also referred to the success of the Telangana Rising Global Summit, which attracted investments worth over Rs. 5.75 lakh crore, and said this year’s Davos focus was not really about collecting MoUs. It was more about presenting Telangana’s long-term vision and policies.

He later met WEF MD Jeremy Jurgens and Manju George at the Telangana Pavilion, where WEF responded positively to the Hyderabad follow-up idea. The meeting also reviewed progress on C4IR Telangana and Telangana’s growth strategy built around CURE-PURE-RARE, with Bharat Future City emerging as a recurring theme.

A Rs. 5,000 crore MoU: UPC Volt’s AI-ready data centre

A major highlight of the day was the MoU signed with UPC Volt (a JV of UPC Renewables Group and VOLT Data Centres). The company will set up a 100 MW AI-ready data centre in Bharat Future City, with an investment of Rs. 5,000 crore over five years.

The project will be backed by a 100 MW RTC renewable energy facility and will use renewable sourcing under Telangana’s Green Open Access framework. The job potential is significant too, with 3,000+ jobs during construction and 800+ jobs during operations.

For Telangana, this project matched the larger pitch it carried to Davos. Future infrastructure that combines AI capability, clean power, and employment generation.

Schneider Electric’s expansion

The Telangana delegation also met Deepak Sharma, CEO of Schneider Electric India, and secured an investment commitment of Rs. 623 crore. Schneider will expand its Gagillapur and Shamshabad facilities, boosting production of electrical safety products like ACB, MCCB, contactors and push buttons. Sharma also noted that Schneider has 38 development centres for skilling in the State.

Biopôle SA-TLSF MoU: A Switzerland life sciences link

Telangana’s life sciences push also got a strong international connection through an MoU between Biopôle SA (Switzerland) and the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation (TLSF).

The partnership will support collaboration in research, innovation, market access, and ecosystem development, with a focus on biotech, medtech, pharmaceuticals, precision medicine, and digital health. It is another step towards presenting Telangana as a life sciences and healthcare innovation hub with global partnerships.

Godrej Industries: Dairy expansion + AI in agriculture

Industries. The discussions included:

  • AI integration in oil palm agriculture
  • Expansion of Godrej’s Creamline Dairy plant in Hyderabad with an investment of Rs. 150 crore
  • Opportunities for residential and social infrastructure development in Bharat Future City

It was a reminder that Telangana’s Davos agenda was not limited to one sector. The State is trying to connect agriculture, industry and urban development with technology.

INOX Group: Renewables & sustainable manufacturing

Another meeting at Davos was with Devansh Jain, Director of INOX Group, focusing on opportunities in solar and wind power production and advanced sustainable manufacturing, including solar module manufacturing in Telangana.

The discussion aligned with Telangana’s larger plan to transition industrial power needs toward clean electricity and green hydrogen, especially as demand rises from data centres and future industrial zones.

AI Innovation Hub MoUs: Skills, healthcare & startups

Telangana’s AI focus was reinforced through MoUs signed under the Telangana AI Innovation Hub (TAIH):

  • Pearson: AI skilling and credentialing for a Global AI Academy
  • AI CoLab at Georgetown University: AI-led healthcare initiatives, training and applied research
  • DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre): Startup development, market access and ecosystem collaboration

Together, these tie into Telangana’s goal of building a long-term AI ecosystem supported by talent, research, startups, and global partners.

Closing note: A week that ends with a plan

Across the week, Telangana repeatedly highlighted its flagship projects, especially Bharat Future City, a 30,000-acre smart city with more than 50% green cover, along with the wider vision of building Hyderabad as a GCC hub and India’s first 24-hour city driven by a night-time economy.

In short, Davos ended with Telangana projecting itself as a State that wants to move fast: Attract investments, build ecosystems, and keep follow-ups alive – not next year, but this year.
